Learnings
Sigh. This was such a delightful little piece when I brought it home from the workshop. I sat with it for a while and decided it didn't need any quilting or embellishment. So I was simply going to do the Pillowcasing backing technique that Melody taught us in her class. But UG! I forgot how much you lose to seam allowance. Sigh. Now it's a Learning Experience rather than a Piece of Art.
Oh, well.

I hate when I have a great balance and then "throw it off" by adding seams. Could you "salvage" the piece by adding a fake border around it that re-adds the lost seam allowances?
Yes, I often fuse in an extra border that can get eatten up by the seam allowance. Bummer. Another this you can try is using batting that is slightly smaller than the top. Then use a backing that is the same size as the top and fuse it all together. The edges fuse together and encase the batting --- like a poptart.
I'm glad you had fun in Melody's class. And I totally relate to the amazing productivity when you actually get in a chunk of kid-free time!
